Beginner Again

Maybe you know this, but I recently picked up a new skill.  I have learned to loom knit. Believe me, I'm not the craftiest person on the planet.  I do some crafty things, don't get me wrong!  But I am not the supreme queen of DIY.  In fact my attempts at sewing back in the day were frustrating as all get out for me.  I hated the tediousness of it.  The idea of knitting or crocheting the old fashioned way, gave me anxiety.  Too many sharp, pointy things going in all kinds of directions.  Eeek.

So one day I was flipping through the radio on one of my long drives home from the "big city" where I buy my groceries.  I landed on Dr. Laura's radio program.  No, I'm not kidding.  I heard her talking about how she was going to go home and knit scarves.  But that she uses a loom in her lap instead of needles.  Now, that is not the type of thing she's usually talking about on her show, so it must've been fate.  I just happen to have all this yarn I had made from my alpacas fleece.  Maybe I outta learn to do something with it!  When I got home I looked up "loom knitting" on Pinterest.  I was instantly sold.  Now, this I could do!  I ordered a small loom online and the rest is history....

When I got my new loom I was a kid in a candy store.  I also bought a book that looked simple enough that I could actually follow along.  Then I watched a youtube tutorial a couple of times and dove into knitting a scarf.  I few little mistakes and lots of decent knitting later, I had a scarf!  That I can wear!  The learning curve wasn't bad at all!

So I have been thinking.... It had been a very long time since I was a "beginner" at anything.  I have quite a few random skills, but I hadn't done anything new in a long time and it was really fun!  How about you?  When was the last time you did something you had never done before?   If you're like me it's been too long!  There's so many things we can do to delight our minds and fill our souls.  What's the thing that would make your eyes sparkle again?  Do it!  I'd love to hear about what fulfilling, delightful things you want to pursue.  That's how we inspire each other after all....

Now go make something beautiful,
