How To Make A Mess

Occasionally I lose my mind and attempt something I'm really not all that good at.  Cake decorating.  While my big boy usually prefers some fancy dancy, store bought cake with Spiderman or something on it, my little guys still think Momma's cakes are awesome.  And tomorrow, my red-headed, twin wonders are turning three years old!!  Time to make a mess!

I baked the regular ol' Pillsbury yellow cake mix as directed, but I added an extra egg.  Just 'cause.  It makes it more fluffy and yummy in my opinion.  Of course those were all eggs from right here on the farm. The best eggs ever!  But I suppose I'm a little biased....

Then while it was baking I started whipping up the colors of buttercream frosting I wanted to use.  I used this cake as inspiration.  But I did know it wasn't going to look quite the this....

Then when the cake came out of the oven, we got into a big fight.  It' refused to leave the pan.  But we argued and I wrenched it out against it's will....

Hire Man Jim was here, laughing at me.  I was pouting.  He said just fill in the hole with extra frosting.  So that's exactly what I did.  I usually do listen to Jim.  Well.... sometimes at least.  I was just glad the other layer popped right out of the pan!

When all said and done, I ended up with a slightly off centered, mildly unleveled, imperfect in every way birthday cake.  But my boys love it!  I am supermom in their eyes and that's really all that matters.  I might even get to make another one next year....

Now go try to make something beautiful,
