How To Move A Rock

For about the last million or so years there's been this giant rock hanging out in a field that eventually became my lower pasture.  It's kind of odd how it just sits there all alone.  Sometimes it fools someone into thinking there's a strange critter out there.... if the light hits it just right.

This weekend we got the wild hair to move this big ol' rock to a new location at the front of my driveway.  So how does one move a rock that weighs around 4,000 pounds or so?

First we tried the old John Deere.   We managed to unseat the rock and flip it onto an old tire that doubled as a skid for the rock.  But that's all she wrote.... Johnny couldn't pull the skid....

So I sat around and waited while Adam went to get a truck.... I entertained myself as best I could....

I loaded up some of the "tiny" rocks that were laying around.

When Adam finally got back, we tried the truck.... ya that didn't work either.  So I waited again while he went to get my bucket truck.

I love my bucket truck a little more every day.....

The bucket truck worked like a charm!  Adam put 'er in 4-Low and eased across the field and up the driveway....

Easy does it....

Chug, chug, chug....

I picked up a hitch hiker.... and gave her a tiny tractor driving lesson.

The entire rock moving team.

The entire rock moving team.

How about right here?

A little shove with the tractor and a yank from the truck and there she sat.

My big boy approved....

Ta-da!!  The perfect accent at the edge of the driveway.  Now I just hope nobody backs into it!

This concludes our lesson on, "If A Tractor Can't Pull It, Get Something Bigger!"

P.S.  My rock moving team is not for hire.

Now go make something beautiful,
